Analysis of Tellurium and Thallium by Flame Vapor Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (USGS and XRAL laboratories)
Method
A 2-g aliquot of powdered sample is heated with 2 ml water, 1 ml conc H2SO4 and 10 ml conc
HF overnight. 5 ml conc HCl and 1 ml 30% H2O2 are added and the sample is heated again. An ascorbic
acid - potassium iodide solution is added, followed by an MIBK solution. The sample
is shaken, the organic layer is separated, and Te and Tl are measured by flame AA. Details may be found in O'Leary (1996).
