NGS Record Numbers
The REC_NO field contains several types of data:
- NURE Record numbers. These are 7-digit numbers, identical to those given by Smith (1997c). Multiple records in the NGS may contain the same value if the same NURE sample was reanalyzed more than once.
- Modified NURE Record numbers. These values begin with the character "S", followed by a 7-digit number. The number corresponds to the NURE record number as described above. The "S" indicates that the sample was sieved prior to analysis. Analyses of these samples were therefore done on a different sample medium than was the original NURE analysis. - NGS Record numbers. These record numbers consist of two letters followed by a unique 6-digit sequence number. The letters are abbreviations for the data category to which the record belongs (given in the "Category" field), as follows:
U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey
