Energy resources and other information
USGS carries out scientific studies of geological resources through two major programs:
- Energy Resources Program
- Geologically based energy resources, including oil, natural gas, coal, coalbed methane (CBM), gas hydrates, geothermal resources, uranium, oil shale, and bitumen and heavy oil
- Mineral Resources Program
- Nonfuel mineral potential, production, and consumption, as well as on the environmental effects of minerals
Other Federal agencies monitor safety and health and economic impacts of geological energy resources.
